چکیده

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the occlusal outcomes and the treatment time of Class II malocclusion with the Pendulum appliance and with two maxillary premolar extractions. Methods: For this, 48 Class II malocclusion patients were selected and divided into two groups according to the treatment protocol: group 1 consisted of dental study casts and initial cephalograms of 22 patients treated with the Pendulum appliance, with an initial mean age of 14.44 years and group 2, comprised of dental study casts and initial cephalograms of 26 patients treated with two maxillary premolar extractions and a initial mean age of 13.66 years. The occlusal outcomes were evaluated on dental casts with the PAR occlusal index and the treatment time of each group was calculated by the clinical records. The variables were compared by the t tests. Results and conclusions: The results demonstrated that the occlusal outcomes were similar between the groups, however, the two maxillary premolar extractions protocol provided occlusal outcomes in a shorter treatment time than the Pendulum treatment. Effects of the pendulum appliance, cervical headgear, and 2 premolar extractions followed by fixed appliances in patients with Class II malocclusion.

INTRODUCTION In this retrospective study, we compared the cephalometric effects, the dental-arch changes, and the efficiency of Class II treatment with the pendulum appliance, cervical headgear, or extraction of 2 maxillary premolars, all associated with fixed appliance therapy. METHODS The sample of 82 patients with Class II malocclusion was divided into 3 groups: group 1 patients (n = 22; t...

Influence of the extraction protocol of two maxillary premolars on the occlusal stability of Class II treatment

Objective: With the purpose of evaluating the influence of two upper premolar extraction on the occlusal stability of full cusp Class II malocclusion treatment, a comparison was performed with a non-extraction treatment protocol. Methods: To this end, a sample consisting of 59 patients with complete Class II malocclusion was selected from the files of the Department of Orthodontics of the Denta...

Evaluation of the role of unilateral and bilateral tooth extraction treatment on maxillary arch symmetry in Class II subdivision cases

Background and Aim: Unilateral extractions have been proposed as potential treatment options to correct Class II subdivision malocclusion, suggesting that most side effects associated with asymmetrical mechanics can be avoided, however the post-treatment arch form may not be symmetrical. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the post-treatment effects of unilateral premolar extrac...

Efficiency of Class I and Class II malocclusion treatment with four premolar extractions

UNLABELLED Four premolar extractions is a successful protocol to treat Class I malocclusion, but it is a less efficient way when compared with other Class II treatment protocols. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of anteroposterior discrepancy on the success of four premolar extractions protocol. For that, treatment efficiency of Class I and complete Class II...

INTRODUCTION The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the occlusal outcomes, duration and efficiency of Class I malocclusion treatment carried out with and without premolar extractions in patients with different degrees of initial malocclusion severity. METHODS Complete records of 111 patients were obtained and divided into two groups: Group 1 consisted of 65 patients at an initial ...
